We invite
Metis, and people of all cultures to attend.
Entrance to Rendezvous grounds and displays is by donation, modest
admission charge for the performances and dancing.
The Rendezvous will be modeled after Historic Hunting camps, in the
style of buffalo hunt camps of about 1865.
This will consist of tipis, old style tents and canvas shades.
This area of Alberta was the site of the historic Metis/Hivernant Buffalo
hunts.
Hunters from Lac St Anne, Pigeon Lake, Boss Hill, Tail Creek and other
Winterer/Hivernant settlements, came together in a Rendezvous to
trade, meet friends, and plan the upcoming hunt.

Our Rendezvous
will be held in the small town of
Big Valley, Alberta. The village has a community hall with washrooms,
kitchen and suitable area for dancing or Musical performances, a large
parking lot, for R.V.s tents etc. Big Valley is 1 km off the highway
#56 about 80 kms North of Drumheller, and 34 km's south of Stettler.

This
will be a replica of traditional Rendezvous Hunting Camp of
1865, the many people who stay in the camp will be dressed in an
assortment of historic clothing. Many of the visitors as well, will
come in beautiful buckskin and beadwork costumes.
We will have traders and vendors selling buckskin, beaded coats, vests,
gloves, moccasins, possibles bags, medicine bags, tanned leather, hides,
feathers, horns, tomahawks, knifes, bows and arrows.
As well as old style clothes such as trappers shirts and pants, capotes,
old style hats, H.B.C. blankets, and many other traditional goods used
in the Old days of the Buffalo hunt to trade or purchase so that you
can join us in traditional style.
It will be like a step back in time!
There will the Metis genealogy tent, where one can get assistance with
researching Metis history.
Bannock, fried bread and buffalo burgers, will be offered for the hungry.
People will meet cousins, friends, and enjoy themselves in a old style
family gathering. Raffles and 50/50 draws will be happening throughout
the event.
There will be displays
of beading, tomahawk, knife throwing, and information on historic
black powder guns.
Seminars on historic skills and crafts, and a general exchange of ideas
and information will be held.
The closest motel accommodation is in Stettler
and Drumheller. There is camping and space for R.V.s at a modest
fee per night, no hookups.
There
will be a separate area for our primitive buffalo hunting camp.
